An old joke says, “Experience is that thing that helps you recognize a mistake when you make it again.” That seems to be the case when considering armed defenders. Many resist it out of a fear that an armed defender, who is not “credentialed” (meaning, by most, law-enforcement certified or otherwise licensed for protection), would accidently hurt innocents in a protective action. Most opposed to armed defenders, carry their concern further, to anyone, regardless of credentials. This Think About It commentary runs publicly every weekend and has since 2011. Thousands have read it in one of the many places it is published. I am asking a question to the entire audience of readers. Can any one of you name a time when an armed uncredentialed defender, acting in official capacity of an American church, school or any other business, accidently hurt innocent people while trying to protect others during an…
It was hard to write today. Even knowing the significance of this day and anticipating a well-considered and encouraging message from our pastor. But there is that current active backdrop of consummate evil working so hard around us to destroy all measures of morality. A dark-hearted transgender has just killed innocent children in a vile display of that apostasy sweeping our culture. Just four days later, the President stated, “Now, therefore, I, Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the United States, do hereby proclaim 31 March 2023, as Transgender Day of Visibility.” To confirm how committed he is to blatant immorality he added, “Transgender Americans shape our nation’s soul.” That on the same day another transgender was arrested in Colorado for his sick plans to conduct similar murders as in Nashville. That 18-year-old…
We have a saying here in Kansas; “It’s easier to shut the gate once the horses are out.” That makes more sense to those who’ve rounded up livestock in the middle of the night. Farm life teaches good choices. Good choices come from making poor ones. We were kids once and know how easy it was to be in a hurry going through a gate, thinking we had no time to close it. We’ve all opened a gate in a hurry sometime, then not seeing cows within miles, left it open because we knew we could shut it later. Few gates take more than a minute to shut, but I’ve spent entire nights looking for livestock that got out. Once I’d gotten them back through the gate, shutting it was the easiest thing I’d done in hours. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced this week he is introducing legislation to place…
