I recently met a lady who told me of being protected by spontaneous executive protection (EP) actions. Her perspective, as the one protected, was interesting.
She is a well-known media celebrity in her city. She was covering an event at the mega church where an FBSN member serves as the Security Director.
As the event finished, she was moving from the church stage area to the lobby, preparing to leave with her media associate. Her daughter was with her too. As they walked down the aisle, a man out of nowhere came up to her and told her how he had longed for this moment to be with her. He moved in and stayed close to her as she headed towards the exit.
Neither her daughter nor her associate recognized her fear. She could not get away from the man who made it clear he was going to be with her. Fearing for her daughter’s safety, she told her associate to take her daughter to the car. The associate went on, not having a clue how scared she was.
However, from the far side of the lobby, the Security Director (who barely knew her) saw the look on her face and came to her. He hugged her and asked with sincerity, “are you ok?”
She answered honestly, “no.” Without any other conversation the SecDir began walking her another direction. The stalker was so intent on his target, he moved in even closer.
She said she doesn’t know how, but then the SecDir was taking her a new direction as she saw two other security team members come between her and the stalker. With no idea how he did it, she never saw the stalker again, and the next thing she knew she was at her car with the SecDir getting her in to see them off.
She teared up as she told me how quickly that SecDir had come to her rescue.
Think About it
This was a remarkable example of an aware security operator using keen observance and transitioning to an active EP role in an instant. Not only that, he was able to call in assistants who also knew what to do.
Could your team do something like that so smooth it would be recalled later by the rescued person with tears of appreciation?
