27 Mar: Mass Murder Associated With Faith-Based Organizations

This message is updated to include the recent mass murder in Sacramento, CA. The FBI defined “Mass Murder” as, “A number of murders (four or more) occurring during the same incident, with no distinctive time period between the murders. These events typically involved a single location, where the killer murdered a number of victims in an ongoing incident.” The word “typically” is specific. Four of the following stories were the same killer & incident, but different crime scenes (3/10/1999, 8/28/2005, 5/21/2006 and 12/09/2007). With this definition applied to Faith-based organizations operating on U.S. soil, we observe the following incidents: September 15th, 1963. Birmingham, AL — 16th Street Baptist Church. Four men killed four girls. June 22nd, 1980. Daingerfield, TX — First Baptist Church. A man killed five at the church. August 9th & 10th, 1991. Waddell, AZ — Wat Promkunaram Buddhist Temple. Two teenagers killed nine in the temple. March…

20 Mar: Faith, Relationship and Trust

Another anonymous contributor to the FBSN “Think About it” series. I will say this is from a current FBSN member and former board member… Just this morning, a brother in Christ said, about Faith; If you and I knew one another closely, had built a relationship of trust in one another, and needed to walk through a door together, we would have faith in one another.  We wouldn’t need to look over our shoulder. He continued, “if we approach a scene not knowing each other, and must walk through that door together, we’re going to need to DECIDE whether to have faith in one another.  It’s the same with God.  You can DECIDE to have faith and embrace that decision wholeheartedly.” When we hear a word from God, that first voice will often be immediately followed by…

13 Mar: The Defenseless (Part 2 of 2)

Note from Carl Chinn: The following perspective was written by an anonymous FBSN member who fights for children’s rights. Continued from 3/6/22… Last week’s tragedy evokes another recent deadly force incident (as logged by the FBSN) that I cannot shake…  On 7-16-2020, in Wilmington NC, 21 year-old Maryuri Estefany Calix-Macedo gave birth to a son, left him in the toilet for up to seven hours, then wrapped and sealed her crying newborn baby boy in a plastic garbage bag. After leaving him that way in her trunk as she shopped at a Walmart she then tossed the newborn in the trash outside of Christ Community Church. The crying boy was found, rescued and survived. On 9-21-2021, after being charged with first degree attempted murder, Calix-Macedo won a chance to regain custody of him and another child upon appeal. Three judges unanimously agreed to overturn the previous case that placed those…
